Arrived at Alice at around 9:00 and got in the water around 9:30. Epecting alot from Rod's report i thought that the fishing action was going to be non stop but it took till around 11:00 to hook the first fish which was a 11 inch cutt.  After what seemed like a million strikes we decided to head up to edith to see how it was doing, but it turned out o be worse.  Fish just didn't seem to be feelin it today.  When we got back to Alice around 2:30 I caught a second fish which was also a cutthroat but smaller than the first, so we started trolling again.  That's when the action picked up a bit and we caught four more fish in the last hour.  We kept one for breakfast and checked what it had been eating and it had been eating dirt, stick and pine needles.  oh well i guess we will have a pine flavoured trout with a hint of dirt.

Ya I went to edith Saturday and had a decent day, me and a buddy got five each to the boat in a couple of hours using leeches.

Fin what you found in the cutties stomach were the remnants of caddis casings. The larva build themselves homes out of bottom materials and drag their home around with them until they pupate.

Yes that amazing, I saw the same thing when we made the trip to Weaver a few weeks ago.

Cool!  I remember finding lots of that stuff in Alice lake trout.  I also remember non stop action on caddis pupae imitations.      Btw - it wasn't uncommon to hook over 30 - 40 fish on the fly on a cool spring day.  Sounds like there's not as many fish as it's not as aggressively stocked.  However, I just might have to check it out soon.  Thanks for the report...

Caddis will make cases out of whatever is available to them....I've seen some strange ones over the years, some with bits of bone or glass.  There is even an artist that captures caddis, removes their casings, and puts them in a tank with gold flakes and little jewels.  I'll post link if i can find it.

ya but i didnt see anything that looked like bug life at all and i hve seen caddis pupae and thought it was dirt before but there was some bugs and my partner told me that it was a caddis, this was just crap but it could have been if i looked closer

I have seen stocked fish eat pine needles on Sasamat one day. I thought they were starving, could be wrong though, my dogs eat grass.

Ive always done well and Alice lake using small vibrex spinners and one split shot the spinners had silver blades and green or red bodies just cast and let sink for a couple sec and a medium speed retreive always worked. Great fun for the kids too.
