CLEANUP ONE: Fraser River Keeper is hosting a river cleanup at Peg Leg in Chilliwack on Sunday, April 27th from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm
Peg Leg Bar provides easy access to the Fraser River for recreational fishing, and is one of the more popular and productive bars for fishing without a boat. Bar fishing the Fraser River is a popular way to appreciate the Fraser River and all it has to offer, providing prime gathering spots for socializing in the great outdoors. Unfortunately, such easy access to the "Mighty" Fraser River has resulted in the accumulation of various types of garbage from aluminum cans to couches. Peg Leg Bar came highly recommended by local fishing and conservation enthusiasts as an area that needed some TLC.

Clean-up supplies will be provided. Volunteers should come prepared for the weather and terrain.

This event is organized in partnership with Woodtone Building Products (http://www.woodtone.com/). Woodtone Building Products have enthusiastically taken on the clean-up with 50 or more employees, friends and family expected to participate. Woodtone will also provide clean-up volunteers with hotdogs and pop to 'thank' everyone for their time and effort.

CLEANUP TWO: River Cleanup at Jesperson Bar Boat Launch on Saturday May 3rd from 9:00am to 1:00pm (registration 8:30am - 9:30am)
Located at the north end of Jesperson Road. For more information or to download a map, visit www.chilliwack.com or call Engineering at 604-793-2907. All it takes is a couple of hours to make a difference. We are looking for volunteers to help clean the banks of the Fraser River. Come join us - refreshment provided!

Lew, Terry and I are planning to attend. I hope more from the Chilliwack area and beyond will too as it is a mess out there. It  will be good to get some garbage off the bar before the coming freshet washes it downstream.

sounds like a good time to me! will let Canoeman know also, maybe campout and do some geocaching
Read something about the Riverkeepers last year in the Sun, seemed discouraging, something about the supreme court not going through with a massive pollution lawsuite as it wasnt in the public's best interest to pursue it
anyway it will be interesting to meet and work with them.

Fraser Riverkeeper and Friends Host Earth Day Fraser River Clean-Up

Fraser Riverkeeper, in partnership with Woodtone Building Products, and other friends of the Fraser River, will be cleaning up Pegleg Bar in Chilliwack on Sunday, April 27, the first Sunday after Earth Day, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come and join Fraser Riverkeeper in Chilliwack. T-shirts, water, snacks and all equipment, including gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided at the cleanup site, located at the end of McSween Road. Volunteers should come prepared for the weather and terrain. The event will be focused on beautifying the riverfront at Pegleg Bar.

A well organzed cleanup put together by Fraser Riverkeeper and Woodtone Building Supplies.

I would estimate at least 75 people took part and removed two large dumpsters full of garbage that had been dumped by careless recreational users and others. Was nice to get if off the bar before this years freshet that is just around the corner.

I was told during the cleanup a truck drove filled with garbage with the intent of dumping it. He was faced with a large group of volunteers off loading their garbage. He took one look at the gathered group and sheepishly turned around but not before someone snapped his photo, license plate and all. Of course nothing much can be done legally in this case but maybe the person would not only have been shocked but maybe it scared him somewhat.

We were treated to some nice snacks after and not like we did at the CVRCC they did not run out of donuts which made Lew and Terry very happy.

Good job by all the organizers including  Kala, Lauren and Doug from Fraser Riverkeeper.
