alouette river
« on: April 04, 2008, 04:09:54 PM »

i moved out to maple ridge and now i have the alouette river almost in my backyard :o.  I was wondering if any one has fished there before and has had any success.  does anyone know if there is much of a steelhead run, or any other species that can be targeted throughout the year.

any info would be greatly appreciated

Used to fish it alot until 5yrs ago. Odd big coho (10+) mostly in what we called the horse pool from Oct 1 - 31. Mostly spinners, crocs. Always outfished the fly guys. Sometomes after coming from Chehalis would stop in afternnon and throw a lure in and seemd could be better then Chehalis. Once on rising tea coloured water landed 5 cohos, 2 cutts and small steelie in about two hours before calling it quits.
Haven't fished in last 3 yrs at all as everywhere justs seems too crowded and too many yahoos. Started fiishing the Chehalis in '85 before mud slides on Vedder and could fish anywhere without having anyone drift past you or cast over you.

Oh well, lookin' forward to retirement then I can take my sweet time and just wander without having to race to get a weekend spot.
