Barfishing is hot, August 14th 2008
« on: August 14, 2008, 03:31:01 PM »

Just got off the phone with Chris, who is sitting on the bar right now. He reported many fish (chinook salmon) have been taken on the bar rods since this morning. That's not surprising considering how many fish were caught in the Albion test fishery yesterday.

Barfishing instruction vid for anyone who's interested:

Fraser salmon reg can be found at:

Good luck to those who are heading out this weekend.

It was indeed as I took a friend and his son along with 2 vistors from Alberta and they were fishing 4 rods and managed to hook up with 5 fish with a 26 and a 24 brought into the net.

When I was not casting and tying up leaders I tried my hand at fishing for pike minnows and connected to a strange looking fish. Pictures of three fish to follow if Rodney has time to post.

River was rising ( rain up North) with visibility not the best but good enough to catch some fish. Lots of debris too that made checking the lines often to clear them.

Another angler hooked a monster and worked his way down the bar before jumping into a friend's boat to make chase. They got close to an anchored boat who pulled up but then ran into the line with the line apparently getting tangled in the boat and then the operator cut the line. ??? ::) Said he did not know there was a fish on. ??? ???

It was either a 50 plus fish, a sturgeon or was foul hooked, unfortunately we will never know. I was sure hoping to get a photo to share with you all.

Some nice fish there Chris. Unfortunately, the chinooks weren't biting where I was at. My nephew and I ended up with 4 sculpins for our effort.  :(

Those are some nice looking fish! glad to hear the action is starting to pick up on the bars.

That strange fish you caught is a pumpkinseed "sunfish", first one Ive ever seen come out of the Fraser. Hopefully its just a stray that got lost and took a wrong turn somewhere.

Fair # of sunfish in the fraser and lower tribs.  I've trapped some in Clayburn Creek in Abbotsford.

Depending on the water elevation there can be some bar fishing at Gill Road and below the Agassiz Rosedale Bridge, all on the left bank. It can be a bit snaggy if you hit the wrong spot.
