You are right... The thing that gets me most is all of these people think they are getting the fish to bite
I had one guy today beside me on the dike tell me that these guys were snagging and that it was wrong, then he went on to tell me how "he fished the runs from the bridge down." Apparentally he uses a 4 foot leader and a 5-6 foot float depth. He told me the fish just hammer it
I asked him if he was sure the fish weren't being flossed and he said no
Bottom point is that, yes these runs are all in plain veiw of people walking bye. The worst part is that people seem to comform to methods that they see others catching fish on, which at this time of year normally consists of a bouncing betty and a 10 foot lead. I am not really saying that that one run was a "secret" but it was not visible from the dike.. and also not visible from the other side of the river unless you walk way in. My point is NOT that these spots are secrets, and that people don't know they are there, all I am trying to say is that I have seen many people walk right past runs before, and as soon as they see fish they no longer pass it up.
I try not to play the "blame game." I kept my mouth shut and simply said that I share the feeling that spots shouldn't be posted on the internet. Anyone can do what hey want, I really don't care. I, personally, would never post a pic of a spot I was fishing in, because I liek going back to spots where I have caught fish before. Now as someone else stated, I do have many more spots I can go to, they are just a longer walk. Today the long walk finally paid off with a 30+ pnd spring.
