Fished the upper river yesterday.  Conditions were great, good water level but the water was quite a bit cloudy.  Saw quote a few Coho caught, at least a dozen or so between everyone fishing around me.  But it was a pain, can't handle the crowd any more, crabby people, others casting over you, and so on.  Was going to stay overnight but decided against it, fishing is meant to be relaxing and fun, and unfortunately this was not very relaxing.  But the coho are there and quite a few of them as well.

As I stated last night I thought the fishing would be good as well as the conditions as there were on both counts this morning.  A report later under fishing reports.

Robj, if you do some walking and wading you can get away from the crowds as I did today. Several runs I fished were unoccupied.

With the new breed of people that are long lining you will find they donot not fish the spots that people that actually fish to take biting fish, so there is plenty of good water to find, especially after a jump in the water. Many spots that were unproductive before will produce for you.

The way of course is to fish top notch bait that you do up yourself and be a couple of feet off the bottom with your float free drifting and straight up not laying on its side as you see so many do these days. Fishing wool can be OK but most of the time it is just decoration for those long lining.

Of course fishing blades or spoons in certain spots can be very good too.

Unfortunately I am one of those wool fishers, but I do use about an 18 inch leader.  Have done quite well with it in the past.  Always fishing the faster pocket water.  I did manage to gather quite a bit of roe yesterday and will be preparing it for another visit next week.  Need to try something different because cannot handle the crowds anymore.  Why do we go fishing?  To relax and have fun, and maybe even catch one or two.  Why do some people go fishing?  To hoard as many fish as possible regardless how they do it, the type of mentality you saw at the Meat Hole.  Can't handle that any more.  Maybe I am getting too old.

Need to try something different because cannot handle the crowds anymore.  Why do we go fishing?  To relax and have fun, and maybe even catch one or two.  Why do some people go fishing?  To hoard as many fish as possible regardless how they do it, the type of mentality you saw at the Meat Hole.  Can't handle that any more.  Maybe I am getting too old.

The reason I fish is also to relax.  If I wanted a crowd I wouldn't use 30 dollars in gas.  The fishing was good yesterday.  I started At first light and about 8 AM I caught my first Coho.  Within minutes I was joined by another fisher.  Before anymore joined I got out of there.  Later I found some quieter water with no one around.  Near the end of the day I caught a 18 lb male Coho.  Since it was dark I decided to clean it later so I weighed it when I got home.

That was a beauty coho you caught, definately in the 18 pound range. I hope you entered it in at freds tackle like I already said, I believe that fish would make this years winner. Im lacking coho, and the last thing I needed to see was one that size.

The Coho has already been partially consumed.    I usually only catch a few Coho a year so I'm already tickled pink.
