Dewdney Slough and Stave River, October 25th 2008
« on: October 27, 2008, 08:36:50 AM »

Was by there Saturday hoping to do some paddling. I overheard the guy doing creel counts that he thought someone had caught one, but could be a rumor. So I passed up on that and headed for the bar for the meat draw at 5 where I won a decent sized ham. I did fish the Stave which had halloween like chum. That some eastern european guys who use the same formula that Stalin was preserved in, to bring their catch home without the chum flesh falling of the bone. Did get a few freaking big line peeling fish on though.

Ah...the Stave.

Home of the green bouncing betty, black garbage bag, giant spinning reels and foul-smelling cigarettes.
Although I prefer to remember it as it was many years ago, it could be useful for something.
People caught snagging on other rivers should have their licence revoked and be sent to the Stave. Like being sent down to the Minors.
1-day permits would be $50.00 available at the only gate. Snaggers would be issued a neon coloured suit with SS on the back. Stave Snagger.
They would be allowed 2 chum, any colour, size or stage of decay and hooked in any part of the body. Pretty much unchanged from the existing daily circus.
Legitimate anglers would police the system and watch for non-neon suit people trying to sneak in. They could fish at the same time and would get a discounted licence fee.
One side of the river only would be available to snaggers and parking would be $10.00 per hour

LOL! that was awesome...

I would add that each person would be photographed with their fish, and weekly faves would be posted in the paper for all of us to enjoy :)

Cheers,
Nicole

Never fished the Stave before, but I think I can describe the type of equipment used.  Have seen their type at the Vedder:

fishing rod that looks like it was from the back of a tow truck, big winch, I mean spin casting reel, equipped with 60 lb blue mono.

"This fish is perfect for the smoker"  famous quote of many.  The fact that it is rotten is irrelavent.

Yep just love fishing with those types.  Part of the reason I have not fished much this year.  Not as much fun like it used to be.

Have a great day,

Rob.
