Tidal Fraser River, November 12th 2008
« on: November 12, 2008, 06:18:13 PM »

I've always wondered why no one else comes down here to fish... ;D

After getting the daily chores done, Marco and I met up at 2:30pm to fish for a couple of hours. The southerly wind was blowing hard and waves were pounding the shoreline, so we had to strictly fish with the big spoons to get the distance that we wanted. I landed one on my first cast again, two minutes after walking from the parking lot! ;D It must be a lucky spot. Maybe there's gold underneath that patch of sand where I have been standing.

In total I managed to hook three. Two of them grabbed the spoon very close to shore. One of them actually grabbed it when the spoon was about to touch the floating log beside me. :o The third fish was the largest today, but it slipped off my hand before Marco got the camera working. :P

Spudcote phoned and said he was coming down, but he showed up 30 minutes before dark. ::) That didn't stop his dad from catching one as well. Marco also managed to stay away from the skunk hole by landing this little guy at dusk.

One person got skunked today... ;D

Water clarity seemed to be worse than yesterday, but probably due to the amount of water movement and poor lighting.

I keep getting skunked at Gary Point but I am going to keep trying. Not least because it is a great place to hang out and there is an excellent sushi restaraunt in the vicinity.

One of these days I hope to put out a photo with my first bull trout.  (Got a cutthroat on the Fraser North Arm but no photos unfortunately - at least I can lay claim to one of those :))

Hmmmm! lets see, who posted where this spot was ???
and when did one become a crowd ???

Dont panic! as this is a tough fish to find for some (me included)
Having to hunt these guys down when they might be there one day and gone the next will keep many away
and catch and release only will keep more at bay

Eh? You realize that was a joke right?

Crowd is my last concern. Having more educated anglers fishing around the area is needed in this area.

The names, Bull Trout and the Dolly Varden, were used interchangeably until 1980 when the Bull Trout was genetically proved to be a separate species. Since that time the "Dolly Varden", which was named on the McCloud River, was actually the Bull trout. The Dolly Varden does exist. But , it is a coastal fish
