Hundreds of fish cut in half at the Chehalis
« on: November 07, 2008, 03:48:56 PM »

We found hundreds of already dead chum and springs cut in half with what looked like a knife on Wednesday in the smaller channels. Is this a hatchery job to speed up decomposition or some morons looking for roe or what else ???

It just seemed weird...........

its a fish count.
I've seen them do it over many years they do the entire system counting fish and to ensure fish dont get counted twice they are cut in half.
I ran into them last year doing it during the week, there was about 15 people with machetes walking the channels. little scary until you see what theya re doing.

Ok , it makes sense now. It seemed too methodical to be a dumbass looking for roe. As you said, every fish in sight was cut in half buck or doe.

Thanks for clarifying.

What's actually worse is when you get a little piece of mung on you near your face that you dont see and it sticks around all day giving you pleasant stinks.  That or the odd backsplash on the mouth when you chop.  :P

I couldn't do that job either without hurling my guts out. Its bad enough when you step on one you cant see at first under leaves or what not when its just ripe....... not pleasent to scrap off your shoes.
