Chilliwack River, February 9th 2009
« on: February 09, 2009, 12:34:32 PM »

Today I started at first light at the top.  The water was crystal clear and not too many anglers up there.  I moved down to a different spot and noticed that the clarity was about 2 ft.  Couldn't get the fish to bite there either, so I went to KWB where the clarity was about 3-4 ft and the water levels were really low.  I havn't seen them that low in a long time.  Perhaps since summer.  Anyways, no fish for me.

I heard of only 3 caught today, I fished about a hour near dark with no success, I did not think conditions were that great but seemed to be improving some when I left. Also spent some time cleaning up garbage at the Hydro Bridge area. It still amazes me there is so many uncaring anglers out there. Picked up 4 containers with left over roe, prawns and shrimp. Also coffee cups galore and ended up with a large garbage bag full of stuff. I have another hour to finish cleaning this area up. I also have the parking lot before that looking good and some use the bag I have there.

We must remember we are in danger of having these areas closed if things do not improve. When you are out on the river spend a little time cleaning up what some of your fellow anglers and others have thrown on the ground or into the blackberry bushes. >:( :( :o ??? ::) :'(

good point chris, I need to make a habit of doing that, I walked by quite a bit of garbage on Sunday without picking it up. It would be good for us all to carry around a little garbage bag like I know some of the members of this forum do.

I used to find myself just walking around the river not really paying much attenion to much of anything else other than fishing. Untill I sarted reading Chris's reports about picking up garbage and realized I should be doing the same. Since I have sarted making an effort to pick up gabarge I know never leave the river without picking up some gabage. The added bonus I have been finding DNE, stealths, cleardrift, and dreenan floats like crazy. So thanks to Chris I opened my eyes and realized I could help to make a difference. Thanks Chris.

Thanks guys. I was the one that got off topic and I did it on purpose as if you make a post about garbage only a few will read it so I embedded in a fishing report as most on this forum will read it. ;D

Glad you did Chris as its a very important topic and one not to be forgotten or taken lightly. Many anglers leave refuse behind, either through neglect or forgetfulness. Many years ago, twenty something to be somewhat inexact, I had borrowed a rain jacket from my younger brother Tim while fishing the Stave. Well you guessed it, I forgot it at the river and had to buy him a brand new one. Ever since that outing I have Always taken 4 or 5 steps and looked backed from where I was fishing to ensure I haven't left anything behind be it tackle, a jacket or even some garbage. If you take a couple seconds just before leaving your fishing spot and tidy up, that is great karma and I've always believed in that. Good Fishing All.

My biggest peeve is people who break the beer bottles instead of just leaving them behind. >:(
