Chilliwack River, February 28th 2009
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:54:41 AM »

The wife was off judging at a gym meet so I was able to get away for a few hours yesterday.Fished some beautiful water near Belle Acres. No other anglers on the stretch I was on.Amazing for a Saturday. No steelhead showed an interest in my offering's though.Beautiful to be on that part of the river compared to the crowds around during coho season.Water had a little colour due to the snow melt but after all the clear stuff of late it appeared perfect to me.Temp was nice too,5-7 degrees,no appreciable wind in that area.Packed up and headed to the canal at days end. Many guys from the bridge on down.Saw no fish taken when I was there.Waded and fished all likely lies from the below the pump outflow down to hwy 1 bridge. No takers.Wind came back up at around 4:30 and as you know this area becomes quiet inhospitable this time of year when this happens.still nice to get out.Have some time in March off work so will try again then.

Thanks for the reports guys, always interesting to learn about the goings ons at the river. Suppose to be a little rain on the way so maybe the fish will be on their way soon afterward.  :D

Also was out on Sat. (after coming up empty on Fri.) The fish have not been holding/showing up in my usual spots so I've been forced to try alot of new to me water.Outside of my comfort zone trying alot of pocket water, skinny edges, and big flats. Finally found one late morning in a tailout mid-river .A wid buck around 14#(gold colorado) and probably the most coloured up steelhead I have ever caught.Very yellow overall, looking more like a spring.A very slow year for me,only other was a chrome bullet(jenny egg/wool) I lost in the upper three weeks ago.
