Being raised in Coquitlam made it easy to go fishing. --- The Fraser  Coquitlam & Pitt Rivers were only a short drive away. ---- In the 60's -70's ya could still run across the freeway [ not recommended today] to get a trail that led to the river. ---Hooking 5-6 sturgeon within 3-4 hrs was expected & the norm. ----- On the Coquitlam R there were days ya get action every 5 minutes.... with chubs tugging at the bait on one's bar-rig. ---- Now that I live in Richmond & in my 50 plus yrs of age I tend to fish locally. --- Just do not want to drive far to get a fish anymore ---- But in the past fished all over from Quesnel south to the lowermainland. -- Rivers lakes streams.... Seen catches of 25 kokenee--- other lakes a nice trout hooked every 3 min. etc.... But nevertheless because I fish locally there is still a great time to be had !!!! Cuttrout sturgeon flounder....even a crab BUT also last year having 2 huge chinooks on that just POWERED & SCREAMED out the lines from our reels & within 30 -45secs lines were snapped !!! This year we have 2 new stronger rods ---reels & now 35 lb test line. Just can't wait to fish off our Sea Explorer boat & get our lines back into the water.

What technique do you use to hook large adult springs in the lower fraser???

Mostly troll for them in English Bay or over towords UBC --- 2- 3 miles west from there . It was really "hot" action for a few weeks last year.  In coming tides tend to push them up river.--------- I do know of a few areas on the lower Fraser where I like to cast chrome spinners ...in 8 to 12 ft of water. ---- If the water is clean & there's a good flow of water ... I've even used a spinning glow , or wool ... try to keep my line short 4in off the bar rig to glow... also presentation about 2 to 3 ft off the sandy bottom... 1 to2 hrs in an out flowing tide. Best eating fish in my opionion. ----

There should be some fun action at the foot of 2 Road in Steveston this fall for Pinks.  They love those Blue Fox spinners.

Let me write that down... Blue Fox Spinner ...I'll try it out...[thanks for the tip]... normally for pinks mostly we used orange Dick Nite(s)... I've never seen a pink taken from the end of No 2 [Steveston Harbour] but talked to alot of people who either told me they or know of someone who caught them at that location. --- Seen the other day while bike riding in that area a veicle parked with a small boat trailer...so someone must of been after fish on southside of Steveston Is.  Have a good one !

Catching pink salmon from the floating dock at London's Landing does not happen often, but it is doable when the timing is right. The fish need to come through the harbour from Garry Point. This usually happens when you get a large abundance of fish moving through during a large incoming tide. Most of the fish would move through the outer main channel, while some fish get pushed in through the harbour. It occurs at times with sockeye and chum salmon too.

One year I caught numerous pinks from that dock three mornings in a row. I think they duck into the harbour to get out of the current during the falling tide, then  hangout around near the London landing dock until the tide rises enough so that t hey can get over the submerged rocks leading to shady island. If you see risers, they are there. I went by that spot a few times the last pink year and i never saw the school there. Who knows about this year?

Rodney Thanks for the correction ... ( I'll use the proper brackets from now on) Remember ya wrote an article on the various fish one can catch at the No 2 wharf..........  Also seen a Globe tv news feature ( roving about reporter) ...  about people fishing at that wharf. No one was catching much that day..... gman WOW that must of been great action... One story I heard was back in the 40's or 50's there was such a run of salmon going up the Fraser the fish plant-cannery which was located close to the Patullo Bridge ( north side) turned away the fish boats because the cannery just threw out a net & caught the salmon off their very own dock. Do not know what type of salmon they were ........... Caught alot of pinks at the mouth of the Fraser.....good fighters ! Have a good weekend.
