Rough day on the Vedder
« on: July 26, 2009, 01:36:43 PM »

Me and a couple friends went tubing yesterday from Osbourne Road down to the Crossing.
Things went smoothly as planned for the first 20 or so mins then it all went downhill.
First, for the first time in 4 years of tubing we had a tube pop, so 2 of us had to double up in a tube.
While doubled up in the tube we decided that it would be a cool picture, so I unclipped my camera and handed it to my girlfriend to take pictures... guess what happens next.
Since there were 2 of us in the tube we could not manuver as well as normal and got too close to shore and ended up hitting some branches, which knocked my camera off my lap and into the river.
The rest of the trip went very well, but the fact I lost a $400 camera kind of ruined my day anyways.

If anyone finds a blue/silver Olympus Stylus Tough floating down the river (more like rolling along the bottom) it would be great to get it back. I would be willing to give the person $ for the return of it. We were going to go tubing today again to try and spot it as it shines very bright. I figure that it will most likely be a fisherperson that finds it. It was lost between Pointa Vista Cafe and Wilson Road (about halfway between where the river runs beside the road). I dont know how far it would travel before finding a spot in between some rocks because it is quite heavy, but I guess this is my best chance anyways.

Thanks.
Dan.

Too bad Dan. I know you are experienced in such activities but I think tubing on the Chilliwack is too dangerous or is it my age that makes me overly cautious. I know there has been several drownings over the years even by a person under the care of a rafting company. Maybe losing the camera will be a warning that accidents do happen, even to the experienced person. Take care.

Its about time that camera sunk to the bottom. From having passed it between belly boats on a lake,  also the time casting the flyrod and the camera on the same swing during full freshet. Im joking, its too bad the camera had to go so soon, better it drown then you. Looks like we will now have to fish the run before we know if there are any fish in there.... ;)

Join the club. I lost my Pentax Optio on the Cowichan River in the spring. I had the wrist strap on but somehow it came off and the camera went into the river.

Hopefully you get yours back. I cant believe how much I miss my camera since its been gone. Now with so many other companies making the waterproof cameras I am making sure I get the one I want. Leaning towards the Canon Powershot D10 though.
