This past weekend, while many of you had dreams of steelhead in your minds, I had 13 kids out of 500 running around Science World on Saturday Night.     While the kids tried variously to kill themselves or break things, I snuck over to the critter section and got some photo opportunities with the resident reptiles and a rock... I know.. I lead a pretty hurtin' life

OK... the gecko and the snake were DARK... serious PP was required to bring them to life, so they don't look terribly good bigger than what I have here, but the pyrite was the opposite problem... MAJOR reflection!
 
All shots handheld with 100mm macro. Man moving objects are tricky!

Soon you'll be yearning for another camera and more lenses.... The S45 is still one of our small carry around cameras... GREAT camera.

I really like the spider in #3 and the green/fuzzy look in the last one!

I love the RAW feature on the powershots; do you shoot in that mode much....the latest raw plugin in photoshop is crazy good - just a resource hog...have you tried it?

Yes. The Powershots really give a greater level of control all round that you don't get from the rest of the compact camera choices.  I shot the Judo pictures in RAW at 3200 ISO:

I was surprised at how well this worked. I used the on body flash to illuminate the shot. My wife wasn't TOTALLY impressed

That snow drop is a beautiful pic. Great exposure with that camera...rich black background and great white detail on the flower.

Most excellent pictures guys....not to familiar with macro.  If I were interested in buying one, what are some cost effecient choices on the market??  You get that close to nature and it starts to bring about notions of the mandelbrot set.

I think, in terms of cost, that there are many great compact (p&s) cameras out there that do a good job, as you can see by Dennis's pictures.  Once you think you have the right camera in mind go to http://dpreview.com/ and see what they have to say about it.  They are pretty much the authority in camera reviews.
