Fisheries Notice for Pinks
« on: September 02, 2009, 03:54:54 PM »

Category(s):  RECREATIONAL - Salmon

Subject:  FN0692-RECREATIONAL - Salmon: Pink Retention in Non-tidal portions of Region 2 (Fraser, Harrison, Stave and Chilliwack Rivers)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fraser River/Harrison River/Stave River: Effective one hour before sunrise
Friday, September 4, 2009 to one hour after sunset Thursday, December 31, 2009 -
you may retain four (4) pink salmon per day in the following areas:

Fraser River: downstream side of the CPR Bridge at Mission upstream to the
Alexandra Bridge (except the Landstrom Bar area closures listed below); and

Harrison River: from the Highway 7 Bridge downstream to the confluence with the
Fraser River; and

Stave River: downstream of B.C. Hydro Dam to the CPR railway Bridge.

Chilliwack/Vedder Rivers: Effective one hour before sunrise Friday, September
4, 2009 to one hour after sunset Monday, September 7, 2009 - you may retain
four (4) pink salmon per day in the Chilliwack/Vedder Rivers downstream of a
line between two triangular boundary signs on either side of the Chilliwack
River 100 meters downstream from the confluence of the Chilliwack River and
Slesse Creek, including that portion of the Sumas River from the Barrow Town
Pump Station downstream to boundary signs near the confluence with the Fraser
River.

Effective one hour before sunrise Tuesday, September 8, 2009 to one hour after
sunset Thursday, December 31, 2009 - you may retain four (4) pink salmon per
day in the Chilliwack/Vedder Rivers downstream from Slesse Creek, including
that portion of the Sumas River from the Barrow Town Pump Station downstream to
boundary signs near the confluence with the Fraser River.

Anglers are requested to use selective fishing methods when fishing for pink
salmon to reduce encounters with sockeye and coho.

A reminder that there is no fishing for sockeye.

Landstrom Bar Closure:  The area described below is closed until further notice.

Those waters of the Fraser River inside a line beginning at a fishing boundary
sign on the eastern end of Landstrom Bar, then to a fishing boundary sign on
the opposite bank, then to a fishing boundary sign on the southern end of Croft
Island, then westerly to a fishing boundary sign on the nearest bank of the
river, then following the river bank to the beginning point.

VO 2009-334 is in effect.

Notes:

The aggregate daily limit for all species of Pacific Salmon (other than
kokanee) from tidal and non-tidal waters combined is four (4).

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia.  This includes all species of fish in the Fraser
River.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the voluntary Salmon Sport Head
Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped
chinook and coho salmon.  Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical
information for coast-wide stock assessment.  Contact the Salmon Sport Head
Recovery Program at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

Did you witness suspicious fishing activity or a violation?  If so, please call
the Fisheries and Ocean Canada 24-hour toll free Observe, Record, Report line
at (800) 465-4336.

FOR MORE INFORMATION:

For the 24 hour recorded opening and closure line, call toll free at (866) 431-

which limit hole, the one on the Vedder?  That place should be closed permanently based on what goes on up there.
