spoke with a couple of DFO officers yesterday (good to see them out) and I asked them why there were no native boats/nets drifting on the lower fraser, and they told me that they probably won't be able to drift their nets on the fraser until the chum fishery opens (maybe a month of so according to one of the officers)...this is great news in my opinion, now the salmon will at least have a chance of making it back to their spawning grounds!  I have no problem with commercial fishing in the ocean, but I don't think it should be allowed on the fraser; some of their nets appear to cover at least half the river and I don't know how any fish can avoid swimming into them...

Good to hear don't agree with netting, it's not traditional in anyway it's 2009! This is whats needed everyone working together "gov't forced" or there won't be any fish for my kids when they are my age.
