Non Tidal Fraser River September 13 2009
« on: September 13, 2009, 07:59:30 PM »

Bunch of us went to Peg Leg today. I was into action all day. Fish after fish after fish. We were all fly fishing. At one point I got 6 fish in 6 casts. It was nuts!!!

I brought home 4 lovely females and played with many more ;)

Nice fresh fish for all the way up there!
Sounds like a great day.

Good going!  It must have been a lot of fun on the fly.

[It's not been too bad around here either but its not been practical to try for them fly fishing]

I hooked a spring in the morning and played it to within about 5 feet from me. Than it decided to stop playing with me and took off and broke me off.

thats awesome! I have just hooked pink on the fly as i am a newbie to the fly fishing sport. not sure if my 8wt sage flight can handle it. I had a fish on today that was large, did get to see it. it jumped out too far away to know what it was but it may have been a jack. had my rod bent in half when i tightened up the drag. had my backing out too!fun stuff ;)

Visited the area near dark to cleanup some garbage and gather tins, certainly was a lot of activity from anglers, to ATV's and motor bikes etc.. Not sure why so many drive across the water area as it is really against the law but no one there to enforce it of course. I saw some fry in the area they were crossing, maybe pike minnows or chub fry but they were fish. Will go back tomorrow and deal with some more garbage before it gets out of hand but it was tough dodging the long leaders. :o

8wt is more than adequate for salmon except large springs in fast water.

Not too sure about Chums either.  I use a 9wt for them and only barely manage when there is fast water - not sure an 8wt would cut it. [Sometimes wonder if I shouldn't be using a 10wt for Chums and Springs]

(Though I would be the first to admit, I have a lot to learn still.   Maybe someone more experienced than I can handle an 8wt with Chums in fast water.  I imagine it should work well enough for Chums in still water).
