I'm heading up to the Vedder for the first time with my father in law on sunday to chuck some spoons at Coho / Spring.  I was wondering were I should start from on the river as I am new to the area.  I am not looking for any "secret" spots just a good place to chuck gear.  I just don't want to be hiking around all morning as I have my father in law with me and he isn't actually going to be fishing...

how early are you wanting to be on the water ?? because to get into any of the better water for spoon fishing you will have to be there like 1hour before daylight (like 530am) to get some good real estate. especially on weekend days. I would try chucking spoons at the Train Bridge run. Your best bet would be to rig yourself up with some floats and drift wool ties or whatever else, especially blades in silver or brass  I watched a guy today start hooking a bunch of fish on blades when the roe turned right off

I would say you picked a bad weekend to fish this river for the first time. All spots are going to be busy without a hike of 20 minutes. The river is going to be PACKED!! If I were you I would go to Lickman or Peach and fish and walk. Just keep moving so that you can fish lots of water and get a spot here and there. The other alternative is parking at Keith Wilson Bridge and fish the canal. Just park there and walk and find water. If you dont want to hike for a spot you are going to be shoulder to shoulder by the time the sun comes up.

The lower river would be an easier place to start, Lickman, Peach or the Canal might be easier slower drifts to learn on, easier walking access for your father in law as well. You could move up river if its slow.
