Tidal Fraser River, October 17th 2009

Even though water maybe high and dirty in local tributaries, the Fraser River remains very fishable and will remain that way unless we get more days like today. The only time that I have seen the Fraser River coloured up immediately was in early October 2003 when we had a huge amount of rain. The Fraser discharge was so much that the current was going downstream slowly during the incoming tide.

Anyway, I fished it yesterday for three hours without a touch but watched a coho jack lost when the tide peaked. There were quite a few chum salmon rolling after the tide peaked but not as many as what I saw on Monday and Tuesday.

Today I managed to land a bull trout that was 42cm long, also saw a coho lost on the bar rod and a bull trout (37cm) landed by the same rod. I also had another follower near the end of the day.

Water clarity seemed to be slightly poorer than yesterday, but that may have just been the lighting. Anyway, it was still excellent for spincasting.
