I just started training to become a Security Supervisor (Actually i am going for a Venue Manager position, slightly more responsibility and money) at the 2010 Olympics this week. The job is Part or full time (I am doing Full Time) and pays $20 per hour + a $2.50 per hour bonus at the end. This is for the Olympics and the Para Olympics.

The jobs are from Mid/Late January until end of March.

They pay for all testing, and the class, as well as pay you for your time while you are taking the classes. They are looking for 1200 Security Supervisors, and so far only have 500, interested?

With them games people hogging all the security jobs, those jobs should be going at a premium. It might be the right job at the right time. If they gave you a Magnum or heavier that would be sweet.

If I got the job and whatever go-anywhere-do-anything pass how long I could blow off my duties and just fish the Squamish area during the "games" before that pass was revoked.

On the positive, the Sea to Sky Hwy is going to be completed on time and on budget. Saw a feature on Global tonight.

Sea to SKy on time and on budget maybe, but they sure as hell cut corners getting it to that point.  Its a bit of a hack job IMO.  I was driving back along that road one night and a rockslide came down about 1 second in front of me.  I hit it and stopped, then a speeding loaded dump truck hit me doing 50km/h.  First person on the scene was a Keweit chick telling me the blasting being performed 200 m up the road had nothing to do with the cliff coming down on top of me.  Took me out of work and life for half a year and suffice it to say I'm still well aware of the damage it did.  Also, I can remember one night nearly going off the road because the cones set out gradually cut off my lane and went and nearly over the cliff.  I can remember being stuck in traffic after more than one fatal head-on caused by that mayhem.  The highway is pretty nice now I admit, but sure was a shtshow getting it there.

Yup, as well as 7500 other security positions.

I Agree, the costs for the security alone is astronomical!!!

But the way I am looking at it is, they ARE going to be here, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, might as well get involved.

Actually, I found out today in class that the total of security people that will be working the games are 17,300. this will include private security, VanOc security, RCMP, Military, and Paramilitary.

This does not include ushers, inside workers, food vendors, etc....

WOW, I had no Idea that it was that big. 900 million in security alone!!!!

Oh well, I am going to LOVE being there, even though it will be a ZOO.
