How do you fish Colorado Blades?

New to fishing salmon other than bar fishing. I had some success with a couple of Coho at the Vedder this year thanks to Rodney's article on short floating. But I hear so much about using blades and have no idea how people are setting them up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Set up is pretty much the same as short floating. You might want a little longer leader than 18 inches, I find this allows the blade to flutter a little bit more. I have had most success dead drifting but fish will hit on the retrive as well. Sometimes when everyone around you is throwing even primo roe, not catching anything you throw a blade through the same slot, good things happen! :o

Thanks for the info. Going out to the Stave tomorrow and wanted to tie some leaders in advance so I don't waste premium fishing time.

you can float them just like you would roe, you can take the float off and spin cast them, you can do a hybrid float/retrieve with a colorado....they are very versitile.

In general any spinner is better fished with a slow roll/flutter opposed to fast.

Just got back from Army & Navy in New West and it was pretty picked thru. Got a few things I'll try tomorrow.

I fish them under a float with some weight, and let it free drift while thumbing the very slightest to keeep it off the bottom. Also try bouncing the blade by thumbing the spool. I find I have more luck with a blade in faster water compared to slow flow, If you are fishing slower water, try getting them on the retrieve.
