Well after yesterday's non-stop action, my brother and I thought we'd give it another go today. Slept in a bit later today and when we got there the water was quite a bit lower than it was when the fishing was really hot yesterday. Also, the spot were we had been so successful (a place where hardly anyone ever fishes, even on busy days) was PACKED! Oh well.... I would probably do the same if space permitted...
Fished a different spot where there was a bit of elbow room and hooked into a fish on my second cast on a gold colorado! Not much fight at first, and when it got close I could tell why. Had to have been the oldest, moldiest fish I have ever hooked in the mouth! It took the float down with authority, and was hooked right in the top of the mouth so I don't think it was a snag either. Anyway, there wasn't much showing anywhere around and not much action amongst the other anglers nearby. We switched to purple jigs after a while and bro hooked into a nice clean doe which we decided to keep for the smoker. Not a thing happened for a while after that so I paddled my belly boat across to one of the islands just for fun. Fished there for a while, lost one on a blade, caught and released one coloured doe on a jig and then hooked into the brightest chum I have ever seen in the Stave. I thought I had got some bright ones in the last week, but this one had barely a hint of colour on it. It's all ready to go on the BBQ for dinner tonight! Not a thing after that one so we called it a day.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day though, sunshine, warm, calm winds....wouldn't have mattered a bit if we hadn't caught a thing. Not too many days like today at this time of year!
Saw one guy catch a nice hatchery coho today. First one I have actually seen landed this year
