Suggestions for a high quality collapsible spinning rod?
« on: November 03, 2009, 09:08:30 AM »

I'm looking for a high quality collapsible spinning rod that fits in a small case for max 6 pound line.  The telescopic rods all seem like they are very cheaply made.

Any suggestions?

I use a shimano telescopic. Its 2 piece, the butt section and the telescopic piece. Its a 5'5 rated up to 6lbs. comes in a nice fabric case. its about a $100 i think. Caught some nice bulls and bows on it. I broke my first one reefing on a snag but was replaced no ? asked. Got my at steveston hardware but A/N has them too.

Looks good, do you consider it a high quality rod?  Should be for that price, exactly what I'm looking for.

I have 3 Shimano Exage STC (Travel Concept) rods. Check out the whole range on their website, although I did buy mine in the UK. They pack down quite small for easy portability.

I used to be a big fan of telescopic rods and have many long ones in the 9' to 24' range from Asia. I have not found telescopic rods in the 6' range that I would consider high end so have always used conventional 2/3 piece rods.

If quality is a priority, an alternative is to have one custom made from a 4 piece flyfishing rod blank. This way you get to choose what guides, colours, cork quality you wish to use on the rod. I have one made from a 4 piece 9' 4wt Rainshadow blank and I use 4 to 6lb test line on it, so far I have been very satisfied while targeting trout, char and other species in the same weight class by other float or lure fishing.

Here's another (I'd guess lower quality based on the price) rod, reel and case on sale - no idea of the quality, but it's sure cheap enough!  Has a ton of very good reviews from customers...
