Where to fish on the Cehahlis River

Getting tired of being skunked on the Vedder so thought I might head over to the Cehahlis for a change of scenery this week.   Never been there before any hints on where to go to fish on this river.

If you park near the bridge, you'll have a few options.  You can hike upstream into the canyon (only recommended if you're going with a buddy, and preferably someone who knows the area) or you can hike downstream and you'll find some nice runs.  Either way, be prepared to do a fair bit of hiking and maybe a bit of bushwacking.  If it's your first time to the Chehalis, the best choice would probably be to park at the campsite (right before the bridge) and hike downstream on the west side of the river (hatchery side).  Good luck!

If you cant catch a steelhead on the vedder, then you will probbaly have a tougher time on the chehalis. This is due to lack of access, so youll be stuck fishing small sections of river with more fishermen. The Chehalis is definately a gorgeous river to fish if that is what your after. If you are fit, you can hike into the canyon and fish lone water. Bring bear spray as there are lots of footprints and dung around, although I believe bears would be hiberating right now.

If it is your first time, I would park at the bridge or campsite and walk down river, you can go quite aways down, if you bush wack.

With the early Spring I have been told the blacks are out already.

i dont think half of them even went to sleep down here in the valley. i have seen signs all "winter" long...

Yep I've seen tracks and even a bear a couple weeks ago.
