How fast do you cover water?
« on: March 01, 2010, 09:28:02 PM »

When steelheading on the vedder how much river do you cover in a hour?
I usually only cover 2-3 runs in an hour
vedder bridge to peach in 2 hrs peach to lickman 2hrs
No success in over ten trips each about 2hrs
I have noticed other guys moving much faster only fishing prime water
I cover all the water using prawns or roe bags.
any tips that can help me get into one would be greatly appreciated.

My way of covering water :

Cast right along edge, keep adjusting your float as you advance farther into the run.
I normally start 1 foot from edge and cast out in 1 foot intervals. One cast per interval unless it is fishy looking, then I do 5 casts (example is a slot in fast water).
Most Steelhead will hit on the first cast unless they have been previously hooked or pounded on all day.
After you make it right to the other bank take 10 steps and do it all again.
In 2 hours I was making it through about 8 runs.

Once you find your circuit you will find Steelhead will sit in the same spot over and over.
Many of these guys moving faster have perfected their circuit and are only casting where they have caught multiple fish before (take note).
