Browning Lake - April 12, 2010
« on: April 12, 2010, 06:53:56 PM »

Deciding to take advantage of the recent stockings my wife and I headed up to Squamish to see what we could catch at Browning. We arrived at the lake around 11 AM and I quickly setup my pontoon and headed for a part of the lake where I had some success last year.

After 15 minutes with no bites on a chironomid I broke out the sinking line tied on a leech and started to troll around the lake,"ONLY to find the fish of course". Once I had found the fish I proceeded to fly fish properly by making nice long casts, letting my leech sink for a bit before retrieving in a slow figure eight motion. This seemed to be the right technique because in no time at all I was into at least a dozen or more fish, some of which were fatties from last years stocking.

All in all a pretty decent day on the water. It was pretty quiet as well with only three float tubes on the lake at its busiest point. There were a few shore anglers trying there luck, most of them didn't stay long because the action from shore was slow.

So how many more fish after we left? You two didn't miss much at Alice Lake, but it was much more quiet over there without the highway beside it. Beside missing a bite on the float and seeing several rises, we didn't have any luck over there. The hatchery will most likely add some fish into those lakes in Alice Lake Provincial Park in a couple of weeks from now so the fishing will improve. I didn't realize how noisy Browning is, but I should have known since I've fished Brohm and it is just as bad at one end. Other than that, no more complaints about Browning. The usage was pretty steady, at least 20 anglers in total from what we saw, which is good. We returned at around 5pm and managed to catch a couple before heading home. It was a bit busier when we came back as well, with a few more float tubes out there. Great to see a couple of young girls coming fishing on their own too, but what's up with one of them. Every second word coming out of her mouth was foul and loud. My garbage can is cleaner than that.

Some photos to share.

The little creek that flows into Alice Lake.

A pretty common sight today, sitting and waiting.

Hardly moved all day.

Whose is it?

Finally, something that swims.

Consolation prize.

So how many more fish after we left?

I stopped counting after 12.

We were going to head up to Alice but a friend showed up and we decided to stay put. Once we figured it out "more weight" the fishing was too easy.

Funny about the girl with the mouth like a sailor, Mary even mentioned it.  ;D I told her that when kids are that age swearing makes them cool  8) .

Btw Rod awesome creek pic!
