I have never fished the Thompson River...is it fishable this time of year?

Im thinking about camping there over the long weekend...if the water is high will the fish still be biting?

You story on the thompson was great,im going on a rafting trip at the end of august so Ill have to bring my rod along.What time of year were you catching jack springs,do you think there would be any near end of july?I love the thompson hot weather gold panning and very few people to contend with.Also wich campsite did you stay at?

Also for those that have not fished the Thompson, be very careful when wading the river. The rocks in certain stretches can be very slippery and can do a number on your ankle if you aren't careful.

The chinook salmon fishery on the Thompson River typically opens in the end of July, watch for openings. It can be good until it closes in mid September.

The Thompson is fishable throughout the season. Lower water is easier but it is possible to do well during high water, you need to learn the river, it's holding waters, and the hatches.

Fished it last week and the water was very high and very coloured. We had a fair amount of success but the high water fishing can be very frustrating if you are new to it. I would say it's about 10% as enjoyable as it will be in a couple of weeks, so if it's an out of the way trip I would just wait until then.

If you head up anyway look for points of land and shoreline features that create structure features and eddy.
