Tidal Fraser River, July 16th 2010

The Fraser River is clearing up nicely. Down here in Steveston, visibility is almost at a foot now, which is pretty good for this time of the year. We've been popping down to the local beaches by our house in evenings to tempt a few little fish while watching bigger fish (white sturgeon, chinook salmon) leaping in the middle. Today I saw a very good sized sturgeon showing its fins, it must have been at least 5 to 6 foot long. Quite a few chinook salmon have been showing themselves just outside the shallow edges during incoming tides.

I spent this evening with my pole for an hour, just to catch a few peamouth chub and northern pikeminnow. There certainly isn't a shortage of bites. Lots of fish to catch for parents who wish to take their kids out. They are small, but fun regardless because the action is non-stop.

I went fishing for these guys for the first time on Friday, and i caught 5 within 2hours, the biggest being around 23inches, you just gotta find the perfect spot, around trees or a dock.  My setup was a with a 6'6 meduim action spinning rod, with a small sliding wieght on the main line (6lb), tied off with a swivel then a 2foot leader (6lb) and a size 10 hook, i was using dough as bait.  just take flour and a lil bit of water and mix them together until you get some dough, just like you would make bread dough.  They great fun to fish for, hope you and your kids get some Rob, Good Luck  ;D- Blackgivesway2blue
