started fishing 6:30am in the lower somewhere not far from the crossing.  did not see a thing! no fish rising and definatly no fish being caught, was there for about 3-4 hours. caught a few small trout and one big one over a pound but still not what i was fishing for and was not very fun on my drift rod, wish i had the fly rod along and caught that fish

My buddy did get a 12lb blackish red spring----too dark to retain.

The river has changed so much that there is no deep slots in the spots I fish.
A fellow said he got a some sockeye and springs at the limit hole until the cops dispersed them.
Of course we know what that's all about...
Two skunks for me so far.
I thought I heard a decent splash at some point, but it could have been a trout.
Last year the river was teaming with sockeye.
Vedder crossing is so shallow now not many fish will hold there.

The limit hole is closed.

Basically the limit hole is closed and the area is full of flossers and funny business.
People are taking half dead fish and stuff like that. Probably taking sockeye too.
Flossers have forced the closure themselves.
Now they just move to other places so the closure probably doesn't have the desired effect.

actually, the closure does help...it's one less obstacle for the salmon to have to overcome. it helps them to rest momentarily at the base of slesse creek before going up and they're not in danger of being picked off like fish in a barrel.

I was on the river today and took a little wander in and told about 6-8 "anglers" they were fishing illegally, they didnt care and continued of course. I went back to the parking lot and took pics of their plates, vehicles and then went to the hatchery to place my call. Hatchery staff said i was the 4th person to come in to make a call !!!! this was 9am

we have the department of fools to thank for that...they should have never opened it (in the first place) during steelhead season.

well there is signs posted there that say NO FISHING, they are not big signs and stapled to the trees higher than eye level otherwise people just rip them down. Its OUR responsibility to know the regulations before we head to the water.


Im assuming your reffering to them re-opening the limit hole during the past steelhead season If thats the case then it wont be happening again because this is a permanent closure now.

what we need are leader length restrictions and a change in regs so that a flossed fish is illigal to retain.

I say a guy fishing the vedder with a 4/0 or 5/0 hook yesterday...what a beak.  And another real jackass down at the allison pools started an arguement with me last weekend as he set up his rod with a bouncing betty and 5 foot lead. 

Unfortunately flossing hooks fish so until the regs change and enforcement increases crap like that will happen.

yes...apparently they opened it shortly after the broodstock program achieved their target number, so anglers could increase their opportunities.
