Another Mishap at The Vedder Canal
« on: August 17, 2010, 11:30:09 PM »

The third truck in a couple of years ended up in the Vedder Canal today.
I sent some pictures to CKWX, they can be viewed here, on their web page. Also information about the incident.

Yikes!  That's one spot that I fish during the coho season.  If it happened during the daytime in the fall, there would be no chance to get out of the way.

There is nothing unsafe about that piece of highway. What is unsafe is trucks speeding so much that they cannot navigate it without smashing thru.

I experienced the detour along that stretch of highway yesterday morning around 3:30am...was wondering what the had happened, assumed it was a bad accident considering a good stretch of the highway was closed. Didn't hear anything on it until around 8am over the radio on the drive home

Perhaps a whole bunch of yellow arrows could help avert disaster.

It doesn't make much difference where the fault lies, as long as another life isn't lost, whatever we can do to make the difference is worth it.

Three trailers and lives lost on the same spot?  There is definately a way to improve that!  And reducing speed limits is not the most effective way.

Hopefully, the trucking industry does its own independent investigation into this crash.  The time of day might have been a factor as it was 2 a.m. in the morning. Possibility of driver fatigue depending how many hours the person had been driving, and when they had their last break.
