Chilliwack and Fraser River, September 25th 2010
« on: September 25, 2010, 10:24:55 AM »

Stopped by the river this morning and the river was crawling with anglers so the rod stayed in the Leaf Mobile but may fish the tide in the Canal later.
Had a good visit with Geff t, Searun and Kyle who had picked up a chinook salmon as well as a jack, said he saw no others taken.

Before I reached the Vedder River was checking the Fraser River to see what the situation is garbage wise for the October 16th cleanup.

Looks like some people have cleaned up Gill a bit but was hard to check it as it was still dark when I was there. ???

Peg Leg bar is another story and will be addressed on the cleanup. It looks like some people were fishing there during the night as there was fresh signs and a cleaning knife was also left behind. The water was still boiling with sockeye so it does not surprise me if some activity was taking place under the cover of darkness.

Both systems are in top conditions.

Good seeing you this morning Chris. Was a nice way to start off the day with a couple fish.

Stopped at a couple other places in the lower for a look but didnt fish. Saw a very clean large chinook caught while a guy was fishing off some rocks, dropping off into deep fast water. Then the angler slipped and had a very close call to falling in  :o

It was great to see you today Chris. I did end up getting a really nice Jack chinook a little further up river and searun and I both had a great battle with a hog of a coho hooked using blades that broke free once it made a run into the fast water. We both got a really good look at both fish and man where they bullets with a ton of energy.

Great, you have convinced me to go out for the evening fishery. First cast in 5 minutes. ;D ;D ;D

Got to the canal only to find the wind blowing nine O so it was a bit hard to get a good drift. Was very mild 23C. A good number of fish showing on the surface. Lost 3 coho salmon jacks including one that chased the bait almost to my feet, in 1 foot of water too. ;D  I guess I better take Rodney's advice and get rid of the salvaged hooks as I am now 1 for 9 early in the season, back to gammy's soon.

The shallow running fish was as surprised as I was and jumped once when it felt the point and then promptly threw the hook.

Those fishing without a float were packing out a few chinook salmon as usual.

No sign of the rain they forcasted, I hope it holds off for the cleanup. I did an interview this evening with news radio 1130 to see if that will get a few more volunteers out.

Hope a few of you will be able to show up to help and do some fishing before and after.

Was out all day today from first light to last light. Both me and my fishing partner hooked at least 1 coho each, with my buddy losing a hatchery runt right at his feet. I ended up with two Jack Springs to hand, and my buddy landed an Adult Spring and a ............chum.

The chum was a bit of a surprise as it came on the first cast after moving to the canal. It was a bright 'chrome' doe.
