Fish Farming 101 General Information Video
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:55:00 AM »

Saw this interesting video that gives a well rounded description of Salmon Farming in BC.
It's 30 minutes long and discusses many elements of the industry.

This is just the first lie in that propaganda festival-I need to throw up now.

There are cheaper, more sustainable aquacultural solutions to tackle the world hunger problem. ;D

I think it was meant as part of the solution to solving the problems we now and will be facing in the future.
I do not think farm salmon is the solution to world hunger.

Good to see, that the message is getting out
Aquaculture is hear to stay! Communities, Govt, Small Businesses depend on it.

I liked how it went through the concerns that Various Groups have brought forward and been quite vocal about, and how those  issues and others are being dealt with.

The industry does need various watchdog groups to keep them in check as we know the GOVT's can't be depended on for that.
Now what will be the next step of  Alexandra Morton and her NIMBY friends?

Oh yes we are not Chile. Businesses and Industry are held to a higher standard. I get tired of hearing that rant.

To reiterate this video is the same pack of lying Bee Ess we've been hearing for years-poorly scripted and shot by a bunch of amateur hacks who wouldn't know the truth if they found it in  their Cioppino.

For instance we're told that once a Salmon aquaculture feed lot is moved we're left with nothing but scenery-no shots of the smothered benthic environment.

Can you believe how desperate the Salmon farmers are trying to make cause with the raising of filter feeders like Oysters, Clams and Mussels?

Talk about muddying the water!

I could go on and on but we've heard it all before-the FACT is that Salmon Aquaculture as presently practiced is environmentally unsustainable.

And as Rodney has intimated with his photo of the Carp it may be that large scale fish farming is only sustainable using vegetarian species.

If you are going to throw out a comment like that please show some credible backup research to support it!  Just by saying something, doesn't make it so......  ???

I was finally able to view this video and thought it was well done. Seeing the salmon farmers side of this debate has me even more confident this industry will be a big part of BC’s future.
Dogbreath, would you have preferred professional actors playing these roles?
