Chilliwack River, December 29th 2010
« on: December 29, 2010, 04:08:04 PM »

Drove passed Mission and decided to go back to Maple Ridge because the snow was extremely heavy this morning.

Waited until 10:30 am and convinced the missy to come with me.

Fished the canal and was into one briefly but it got away. Spoke to a father/daughter team and was told they hooked into 2 beauties today up above( did not specify location )- a 16lb wild and a small hatchery that they let go.

Water is looking excellent now.

Tight line guys and gals.

Typical Asian driver, freak out when you see the white stuff. ;D ;D ;D

I just went back to bed this morning when I heard rain drops outside, then made my way to the river at 1:00pm. ;D

It was a nice long walk for three hours, made a few casts, took some photos, was even served with a coffee at the end of the day by the Leaf Mobil. ;D

I was on the highway from 6:20 from North Van, got past surrey to white out sorta conditions but I stuck with it, and it was fine when I got to Chilliwack.

Went to bait up my offering this AM, rather difficult since it was still in my fridge. Managed a hook up with one steelie but it was quickly lost  :'( :'( :'(. I'll call it a success for the first outing of steelie season.

Hit Hwy 1 about 7:00 am from North Van.  Did question my sanity when we hit about 2 areas where it was a white out but driving down into Sumas Prairie the weather improved greatly.  Hit an area around Lickman first, as walking down to fish a guy beside me hit into and landed a 14 to 15 lb hatchery.  Third cast got a good hit but did not see the fish and it was off in about 10 seconds.  Walked up river a bit and brought in a 12 to 13 lbs wild which was released at waters edge.   Hooked into one more at that location but lost it early in the fight.  Saw at least three hatcheries got in about 1 1/2 hours at that location.

Moved down stream a few miles near the railway bridge but nothing in that area.

Second time out and into three fish makes one think that this may be a good season.  From other heard that no fish had been hooked in this area all AM.
