--Cool... sort of and looking forward to a more detailed report.
--Shore spawn increase in Okanagan..(my opinion only) mainly due to better regulation of water fluctuation from flood control which in the past wiped out many shore spawners.
--Shore spawn kokanee are opportunist's, the indicated increase of instream spawners may have been from an influx of the.. generally smaller sized shore spawners..
--work continues in okanagan to reduce the abundance of mysis shrimp a major competitor for food.

--It is still shocking that after being closed to recreational fishing for more than 10 years of study this former producer of the world record kokanee just broken this year at Wallowa lake in USA does not yet support a year round kokanee fishery.
--Maybe the kokanee are just in tune with their sockeye cousins who had largest run in 100 years (maybe wasnt ocean valcanoe)
--Check out Kokanee Power  Derbies which are frowned upon in BC and still large limits in many USA lks in Oregon, Washington and California.
-Sorry I forgot BC policy is to close the fishery and let it come back on its own which seems to be working out much better.

--Skaha Kokanee numbers down... maybe..
--Skaha has been the kokanee poster boy of late with steady numbers for last few years.
--Least amount of recreational fishing of kokanee of all lakes in the valley and introduction.. in small numbers so far of sockeye.

--Non scientific personal observation...more fish smaller size than previous years..this can change year to year should know mid May if this years crop of mature kokanee will produce some larger fish and of course will see what wasn't caught in the Okanagan river channel in Sept/Oct.

--The intended re-introduction of sockeye has at least spawned a plethora or research projects for the lake and Okanagan river which is much needed.. regardless of the outcome. Projects which actually have funding to do some longer term monitoring.

--Way back when there was a Fish&Wildlife branch, many of the employees actually fished and hunted. It was at the time deemed OK to keep some kokanee to eat. There were enhancement stocking programs and a great deal of energy spent on both research and fishing of kokanee.. The dreaded mysis shrimp which was to produce monster kokanee backfired in many lakes and became a competitor for food.
--It seems after this MOE with its all new conserve and protect mantra dumped kokanee management and moved to the sterile trout catch and release only ... it became a Sin to keep a fish..

--Bring back the funding for kokanee research and enhancement they are  still loved by fishers
