My wife and I took the dog for a walk on the lower end of the Seymour River today behind Maplewood Farm.To my suprise I spotted a 8 to 10 lb steelhead in the little feeder creek that drains behind the farm into the Seymour.It was a wild fish,very dark with some white on it's dorsal fin.Was this fish lost or do Steelhead spawn in some of these feeder creeks?

What you saw was most likely a spawning coho and yes they often spawn in the smaller tributaries.

No offence,I know the difference and am pretty sure it was a Steelhead,got the day off tomorrow,going to take my camera and see if I can get a pic ( if she's still there) will post a pic if possible.

the river is really high right now.  it was probably taking refuge from the blowout waters.

you are lucky to have seen one...some people say they don't exist in the seymour anymore

well i hope everyone remembers that there is NO retention of any steelhead (except by hatchery staff).

if you see one, think about giving the hatchery a call 604 288 0511.  last time i was up there they were desperate for brood stock.
