Buntzen Lake, April 9th 2011: FLOODED!
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:50:23 PM »

The water level is so high there is no access to the main pier. Everything is flooded.
The small side docks on the east end (those beyond the off leash doggy area) are gone. :(

The usual fishing spots off the hiking trail are innaccessible - they are all under water. The big rock accross the south beach is almost completely submerged. There is literally no south beach - it's all under water. To give you an idea of how high the water is - the sign on the cliff that says "no diving" is at water level! :o

You cannot, I repeat, you cannot reach the pier unless you have a boat. It is all flooded.
The water is so high some picnic tables are in the water - and there is a fence and tape preventing you to go beyond a certain point.

I did manage to launch because I was with a friend. If I had been alone, I would have just turned around and gone home.
Between the two of us, we carried my boat over the fence and to the water.

Fishing was spotty, we did limit out on ten inchers with just one serious 2-3 pounder lost by the boat.
Black leeches with tungsten bead heads were the hot ticket.

Some guys trolling wedding bands and worm did pretty good.

Sorry no pics - I forgot the darn camera at home.

Thanks for the update.

Just so I'm clear you can still launch a boat, legaly, but one must get it to the water? IE no launch access?

I have a kayak so that is usually not an issue.

Nice job on hooking a 2-3 pounder, I knew there had to be a few.... Saw a 10 pound NPM come out of there.

Kayaks, pontoons, float tubes even a small pram should not be a problem. This video should give you an idea how high the water is, from Friday:

Thanks rod. I was pleasantly surprised they at least have a pull-around still open. The last time I went you had to get to it from the parking lot to the water.

Fishing was good with many landed. A little windy but manageable.
