Last Wednesday, I went up to Sheridan lake to my buddy's place on the lake to pursue some hawgs on chronies. The weather was not very nice to use but we prevailed. Fished around Thomas Pt. casting a weird version of a Carey Special with Brown, Black, Blue and Red all mixed in. Well it landed three in one hour between 3 and 6 lbs by buddy #2. A olive Chronie brought in two around 4 lbs. for buddy #1. I got one 2 lbs on a pumpkinhead leech. Then the wind came up around 4 pm and off the lake we had to go. Went out Thursday and the weather was terrible. Rain, wind, sleet, lightning and cold down to 2 degrees. Needless to say the fishing didn't happen so off the lake we came by 4:30 pm. Went out Friday with another buddy from Seattle joining us. The weather was better but still windy and unsettled. Buddy #1 and #2 went out a couple hours before buddy #3 and I and hooked into 12 bows from 1 1/2 lbs to 5 lbs. on the same flies. The fish were full of small olive green scuds. We hooked two and lost two all on Brian Chan's leech and scud. Then the wind and rain came up and off we left with the threat of lightning. I left that evening to head up to Dragon and stay at my cousin's just a few kilometers from the lake. My cousin's husband and I went out late Saturday morning and fished where all the boats were, Goose Poop Point. In a few minutes I began to realize that something amazing was happening. I had never fished here before but Nick Basok had encouraged me to do it. There were 20 boats fishing chronies and in the next four hours we saw upwards of 300 bows hooked and released, not including those lost. The chronies were hatching like crazy and shucks were all over the water. Water temp was 59 degrees. Beautiful day. It took a while for me to figure out what were the key chronies, the depth and the mojo. After a couple hours I started to hit into some action. I caught two hawgs 7-8 lbs on green and red wrapped size 10 and a black and red wrapped size 12. My cousin's husband hooked one 4 lb range on a black and silver size 12. Hooked and lost two more. We enjoyed just watching the action as I viewed two anglers hooking and landing probably 30 each in the four hours. Biggest I saw was around 9 lbs. Heard of one 12 lb plus caught the day before.
Went out the next day, just after lunch with cousin and her husband. The action was great but not like the day before. Hooked one hawg on a size 12 lime green with red wrap chronie that was 24 inches long but weight over 6 lbs. Man are they beefed up. Hooked and lost one about 22 inches, got wrapped around the anchor line. The bow hit a Chronie red butt and black size 14. Hit two more and lost them both, one snapped the tippet and the other cartwheeled and spit it out. Left early because nast thunder and lightning storm coming fast in on us.
Monday morning was my time to fish by myself. Got out late, sun was out and I was ready for a great day. The lake was turning over and the surface was covered in crud. Fished for three hours and landed 7 fish ranging from 4 to 9 lbs. caught on size 10 olive and black with silver wrap. Had a great time and loking forward to going back up next fall.
