Never caught them but I'd use a black and blue marabou with just a bit of flash. Sink tips for sure, you want to get your fly relatively close to these fish. Where are you based out of?

Richmond
just wondering if anyone does this in the thompson - i imagine it would be exciting.  I have fished the thompson for steelhead since 1982 (bait...shhh) but have been converted to flyfishing (haven't tried for steelies yet) and i knew that people gear for chinooks ... just curious

Wow  since  1982 !   You must know the river well.     Lucky you.    Have you ever caught a spring in any river ?    I have caught one a  10 wt  and  it was a long time before I could move it or get it in.    Then  my  loop  came off after  so much  fighting in the current and I  lost  my shooting deep sink head and the fish.      My advice is  ask the pros  in the fly shop for the best  set up and the  best  loops,  the best shooting heads,  and best  technique.    They have done it many times before.

I have hooked many springs on the Thom, using Kaufman's Golden & Black Stones, Squamish Poacher, and my own Flat Black. You will want to use a lead shooting head to get your flies down. If you can bring one of those brutes to hand, with the force of that river at this time of year my hat is off to you. I have yet to bring one in before braking off.
