Hello,

Generally speaking what are the lakes in the caribou like to fish in the middle of October. Considering a trip for the Thanksgiving weekend. Possibly productive or traditionally not very productive? Will the trout be spawning? Thank you.

All rainbow trout spawn in the spring. Brook trout spawn in the fall, but most lakes with brookies have triploid fish which don't spawn. However, they are still very aggressive in the fall.

All in all, the middle of October should be nothing short of excellent. The fishing is not as straightforward as chironomids in the spring, will likely take a little bit more effort to key in, but the fish will be in their best condition of the year and feeding hard! Might see you up there, best of luck! Traditionally very productive, perhaps the best time of the year!

Just cleared with the boss and the other boss so me and a buddy are heading up as well thanksgiving weekend to stay at his parents place on deka.  So many lakes to fish around the area and should be perfect time of year to catch them in a feeding frenzy before ice of. Usually leaches and shrimp are my go to flys this time of year

  • I'm a llama!

As has been noted the fishing is pretty much prime time but be prepared for the weather as ot could be baking hot or freezing cold and everything in between.
I wouldnt be up that way in mid Oct without snow tires.

Leeches and scuds as others have said. Fish start coming into the shallows too which can be fun!
