Tidal Fraser River, October 10th 2011

Caught the high tide late yesterday afternoon.  It was pretty nasty weather, but worth the trip.  Hooked one early on and lost it after about 30 seconds and some serious acrobatics.  Then nothing for the next hour or so, except for a bunch of birdsnests (put too much line on my baitcaster the night before when I changed the line).  So I switched to my spinning reel after getting fed up with the birdsnests, and put on a home made yellow/green chartreuse spinner.  First cast and fish on.  Managed to get the fish to shore and it was the biggest most beautiful Bull Trout i've ever caught (probably 3lbs).  The very next cast after I let him go, fish on again.  I couldn't believe how hard the fish slammed my spinner - shooting straight up out of the water as he attacked it.  Man its just night and day fighting Coho compared to Pinks!  He must have done 5 or 6 huge jumps/flips/summersaults/cart wheels, before I managed to get him in.  Low and behold he was a hatchery fish about 6 or 7 lbs - perfect for the BBQ tonight.  The meat is so much more red than Pinks too.  So far a good start to the Coho season - 2 days and 2 fish.  Going to try again this afternoon.  I love this time of year!
