Rescue in the Capilano River Global News : Friday, October 14, 2011 12:00 AM
A man is recovering this morning after being rescued from the cold waters of the Capilano River.

Rescue crews were called out just after midnight to an area just upstream from the Highway One overpass.

“Somebody has heard some screaming down at the river. Two members of the RCMP went down to investigate and found that there was a gentleman in the river and moaning,” says Assistant chief Wayne Kennedy with the District of North Vancouver Fire.
“So, they called us, we came to assist them, and it turned out we had to package him up and bring him up the bank here.”

They had to climb over a fence and down a steep and muddy ravine to get to the man, who is believed to be in his mid to late fifties.

Besides being extremely cold, he didn't have any visible injuries.

Crews say they're unsure how he wound up in the water.

Just want to remind everyone to be careful out there this weekend. Remember we all have people that love and care about us and it would be a shame to have them carry the hurt.

The power of that river at full tilt is surreal.  The last time it was pushing 8 on the cam, I was packing up as the sun was setting and could see something massive coming down the river at speed.  It was a HUGE tree, complete with branches, roots and all!  Flying down the river as if it were a little bobber.  The only thing crazier was the sight of two Kayakers hooting and hollering, loving every second of chasing the tree out to the Ocean!
