Just caught the end of what the tv newscaster stated.....something about grizzly bear sighted in the LML....guess if that is the case...it is in the mts. north of the Fraser R.     Never heard of grizzlies  200 miles  from Vancouver.   Heard it on the tv news about 3 days ago.

There are grizzlies closer than that.  There's a population of grizzlies west of the Sea to Sky highway.  This was earlier this month, 90km from downtown Vancouver.

Nick Didlick  caught the 2 bears on his remote act. Vid cam. Article went on to say about  other Griz bears as mentioned in other posts. WOW..I would never imagined in a million yrs.

??? The vast majority of grizzlies in the LML do just fine foraging for natural foods.  When the odd grizzly in the LML gets into human food, its a big deal, ie: Squamish, winter 2006.

Have seen signs of grizzlies in the squamish area for many years, at least going back 10-12 years. Never run into one though, thankfully.

The Grizzly siting was in the upper Pitt river and the reason was the salmon run once the run is over the bears disappear to where they came from. Whats really scary is having a fresh elk kill hanging from a tree when across the valley you 8 grizzlies on the hill side and you know you still have 2 days left before the float plane picks you up, now thats scary...... :o

Very true, there have been rare sightings of Grizz up in the Elaho/Ashlu/Squamish valleys since the eighties as I remember.

There’ll be a huge pink salmon run in the Squamish, and yet these bears are up in the mountains eating berries. As far as we know, they never go down.

This could be the reason why bears are rarely seen up Squamish way.  Maybe occasionally when they come for a bath or a drink.  Interesting!

been reports of Griz in the upper Pitt for years! And have seen on the squamish.

As for the garbage eating bears, or the paranoia surrounding them, poor bear etc?

Perhaps we should be asking the City Mayors and the Planning staff why did they not plan for a way to give the bears space and time to move on before they developed the mountain, ie: Burke etc. There was no thought given to the resident bear population with what will they eat, where will they live. It's an effin disgrace.
However they will point the finger at the householder for not securing their garbage. We can throw our kitchen scraps in the compost heap, but if you use a green bin we are expected to freeze it, then deposit it in the green bin which is supposed to be secured???

Fact is, We need to find out how many bears can the various areas sustain, and cull the effin rest. So, "poor bear folk" can get a grip. Garbage is not the problem! The comunity is the problem.
