Tidal Fraser River, October 24th 2011
« on: October 24, 2011, 10:08:54 PM »

Only had 2 hours to fish today, from 11:30 to 1:30, but it still turned out to be worth my while. First tried casting upstream just along side and below an old log where coho like to rest. After a dozen casts and no hits, thought I try a few out in front, before I moved up to another spot. I wouldn't normally do this due to branches hanging over and into the river downstream. After 3 or 4 casts hooked one about 8 lbs., but lost after a good fight. Was moving to release it when it took off straight for the branches. Tried to stop the fish, but the hook came out and nearly took my head off.
I had to stand back at least a rod length or more from the edge, as the visibility was at least 3ft. Also it was low tide, so with the low clear water they spook easily. I can't remember doing well in the past at low tide, but you go when you can. All the coho I have released or lost have hit between 10 to 20 ft. from the bank.
During the next hour I released 2 bucks about 7 & 10 lbs., a jack, and small cutthroat. Also lost 2 more coho. Going to try and make a longer day of it tomorrow.

Appreciate your report. It would be nice to at least mention what the general area you are fishing. Rodney always let us know he was fishing minutes from his Richmond home.  ;D Some members would say they are fishing the North Arm, or South Arm etc. How about say Fraser below Alex Fraser, or below Port Mann, or say Langley area bars etc. At least we know which section of the river is better for spinning for coho.

I heard at the fishing store that Triangle, Brownsville, and Derby have all been fishing well for coho, bar fishing with roe.

i agree with liketofish. the tidal fraser is huge....spans from mission bridge down to the mouth in richmond with 3 arms to fish in. to say you fished the tidal fraser is not very helpful of a report. be more specific but not to the spot. ie...i fished the tidal fraser around north arm richmond. this involves a relative location without giving out your " fishing spot".  ;)
