Was out fishing the Chilliwack- Vedder today with a good friend and, an even older guy than me
. As old guys tend to do (between us we have over 100 years of C-V angling memories) we discussed the old days; how the C-V has changed both physically and dynamically, and how the fish populations and anglers have changed as well.
Lew and I talked about the one time huge Rocky Mountain Whitefish populations; I remembered the prolific Largescale Sucker spawning run in the lower Vedder and Sweltzer Creek during early summer, about 45 years ago.
We also discussed sculplins and how we both honed our fishing skills catching these small fish in rip-rap along the dikes near Vedder Crossing. Back then, these “bullheads” made great bait for what we then called Dolly Varden.
Sadly, neither of us could remember the last time we saw a sculpin in the C-V …
So, any anglers out there still see these cute little buggars?
