I found a good price on a Shimano Convergence Mooching Rod  , Medium with soft action . $50 at Wholesale Outdoors

Would this be a suitable CP rod ? ... I am just looking for something on the cheap to put together a CP setup for 'ho season .

I have searched and found that many are recommending the rod for in the salt , but how about for local flows .

Definitely a great deal for a decent cp set up.  If it's the 10-20lb class rod, it will fish very nicely for the local flows.  There are better rods out there but for the money can't go wrong.

I have read many good reviews of the convergence series from shimano , I was just unclear about "mooching" versus "cp " rods  . Some manufactures have specific rods for each applications .

I'm using a fenwick hmx mooching rod for my cp setup and it works. For 50 bucks I'd say get it.

Call them before you go there - they may be out of stock.

I called them last week about the Convergence rod for $52.88 on this page:

They are blowing out the old Shimano Convergence rods as a new model is about to come out.

I have a Med/Heavy casting Convergence that I've used as a chum rod for at least 5 or 7 years. The reel seat is finally starting to loosen from all the torque but its been a great rod for the price.

Personally I don’t think it's got quite enough backbone if targeting springs, but it’s a good all-rounder. Would definitely buy another for $50 as a backup or loaner

The standard 12-20 or 15-25 might be a llliittttllleee stiff for some of the lighter species, but as an all-arounder they're a great first 'pin.  I used one and enjoyed it once I got the feel of it.

I've ordered one to wholesale sports. My new CP reel will seat on it. I will see it.

I have this rod set up with my Islander centrepin, it does the trick... good for salmon, would prefer something better for steelhead season but it will still do the trick for me this winter...
