Harrison River, November 13th 2011

Decided to give it one more try before hanging up the rods until steelhead season.
We were in a heavy prop boat so were somewhat limited to what areas we could fish.
Started at the mouth tossing spoons but had minimal action so we moved upriver. I hadn't fished there in years so it was a bit of exploring. Found a nice back eddy and started casting. I was now float fishing with jigs and first cast into the seam, float goes down. I set the hook and was extremely surprised to see a large sockeye explode from the water with my jig in its yap.
In fact the area we were in was thick with sockeye, so we moved back downriver to try to find some coho.
Eventually we gave up on the slack water and targetted the faster water for chum and the action was crazy. For an hour it was a relatively fresh chum every couple of casts. Two does in particular stood out because they were absolutely chrome, in fact they had almost a bluish tinge to them with no green and minimal hint of purple flames.
This is a picture of the "most coloured" up of the two that my buddy kept for the smoker.
Also interesting was that this fish had loose eggs.

That's a chromer - nice fish man!  One of the Chum hens I caught a couple weeks ago (was also super chrome) had loose eggs just spitting out everywhere.  I saved as many as I could and my wife prepared the eggs for us to eat as Ikura - delicious!

You managed to brave the heavy winds?  Guess the name says it all.  I got to Kilby at 8 am with hopes of launching my small inflatable but turned back at the sight of the large white caps blowing across the Bay.  I decided the shore fish (sans waders) a few small streams along the north side of the Fraser on my way home.  I ended the day with a couple of chum (no chromers) and a nice trout.  Went out the next day to one of those systems I fished the day before and fished hard for a few hours (with the wind still blowing hard at times) with nothing to show, then finally found some action.  Hit a few small jacks on an olive muddler and then finally hooked into a nice fish of close to 10 pounds on a small pink and chartreuse fly, after a battle of 10 minutes or more it came unbuttoned as I was easing it in over some clumps of grass.  I guess the touch of the grass caused it to make a finally dash and threw the hook...very disappointing.  It was a chromer, looked like a coho, but could have been a fresh chum given the fly I was using (I named it Chum candy after last season).
