Chilliwack River, January 24th 2012
« on: January 24, 2012, 03:41:49 PM »

Decided to head out today before the reported heavy rain comes.

Got down to Bergman around 9:30am and fished for about 90minutes. Only saw a couple guys fishing the run and nobody got anything to show.

I decided to head down below the canal. Fished for 2 hours there and managed to hooked into a wild fish.

I took some pictures to show what the river looks like for today. It was starting to rain quite heavy when I left at around 2:30pm.

Hopefully the cooler condition will hold the river at its current condition- just perfect!!!

Looks like a cutthroat, hard to tell though with nothing in the pic to set a reference to the size..

that is a cutthroat - note how the maxilliary extends well beyond the eye. The spots and colouration below the lateral line is also cutthroat. No sign of 'bow that I can see. How big was it?

At certain stages of their lives cutthroat actually lose the red slash under their jaw.
I have caught many off the beach the past few years with either no slash or a VERY faint one hardly visible unless really looking for it.
That is why you should not rely on just 1 characteristic of a fish to tell the species.

Btw I agree, I would call that a cutty... maybe a cuttbow (hybrids between rainbows and cutties are becoming a normal occurrence, and are actually impacted some places in the states where cutthroat are endangered due to introduction of rainbows).

Looks to be around the same size as the one I got last year judging by the rocks and the head size
