Redington CPX wader wear damage.
« on: January 29, 2012, 01:12:32 AM »

I spent 360$ on this pair of waders 3 months ago and both neoprene booties are now blown open. The knees have also rubbed open pin hole leaks, and they were the best fit coming from the shop mouth who sold to me. My boots are brand new Bear Keramodes if your woundering.
Heres some pictures of the wear damage.

Left foot

Heel worn through

Right foot

Seem has peeled off and heel is almost worn through

Inside knees.

Just curious if anyone else has had the same problems with this wader, or whatever else they can add. Thanks.

Many waders wear through the foot that is why it is a lot of people wear thick socks over the neoprene feet. But yeah for three months of use that seems pretty harsh.

do you fish every day and all day? because it looks like your heel is slipping in your boot but the knees look like general wear and tear even though it is premature. thats why simms now has their seams on the legs where they cant rub on each other.

Are these the current models? Looks like the exact same problems as my last pair which were the one before last, they are garbage! The heels on my first pair of cheapo $100 neoprene are still going good and leak free.

Yes they are the current model, after going through this I will be trying a new way to protect the neo boot. Kind of a piss off, will be upgrading to a G3.

$360?? They don't look any better than the Bare's I sold you for $5 at the tackle sale :D  I have the same problem with every pair of "breathables" I own. They wear out quickly if you fish alot. That's why I used to use Bare's, they leaked after a while but at least the company was close by and it was easy to have them replaced. Good luck.

Yes they are the current model

Those are CPX's, the current model are Sonic Pro's which are way nicer and better built.

I have the cpx zip fronts. I had similar wear on the insides of the knees. I phoned Reddington and they sent me a brand new pair of sonic pro zipfronts to my door at no charge. All I had to do was cut out the labels and mail them in. I then aquasealed the wear marks and have kept fishing them for the last year and a half and have the brand new sonic pros waiting till i retire these.

Wearing through the heels had always been my biggest problem with any waders i have owned. I now always use a pair of wool socks on the outside of the bootie or simms make a neoprene sock to help prevent wear and that has helped in a significant way.

how the hell are so many of you wearing out the heels on your waders ??

I have never done that to a set of waders even when i owned cheap boots. do none of you buy your boots to fit properly ?? or leave them tied up to loose which allows your heel to slide up and down while walking ??

no company would or should warranty that type of wearing issues especially on the heel of waders because it definately looks like your boots were too loose  ::)

Nope and nope, I have the right size boot and do them up tight, with my CPX both the heels and the underside neoprene wore thin very quickly and the tape started coming apart in a few places.

I have good quality boots and I keep them pretty tight. I actually can't wear lose fitting shoes (skate shoes, work boots, etc) it annoys me.

I think part of my problem is i wear a size large wader with size 13 feet. Most companys use a 10-12 neo bootie on a large wader. Bigger booties usually come an an Xl or bigger wader which is too big. In my situation, i probably stretch the neoprene a bit which leads to wearing thin.

As I have said before, if you are not wearing out breathable waders, you probably don't fish enough  ;D Or atleast don't walk, hike and bushwack as much as other people do ;)

CPX's had a lot of problems when they first came out. They have been replaced by the sonic pros, a much better built wader hands down. I have the Sonic pros now, (they replaced my old CPX's with their new model).

if you have trouble with warranty you could always sell them on ebay as "3 months old" "slight wear"... ;)
