Hit up breakfast at 730 noticed the wind was pickin up. Decided to hide Allison Pools with nobody around, looked good. Perfect morning no wind just cold enough to ice the eyes, Water was clear lots of visibility. Just a nice morning
Decided to explore the upper checkin spots my buddy and I thought would be nice(boundary and down)
On the way to lunch decided to stop at Cedars. Considering there was only two cars on the road. Water was a nice merky colour something had changed.(clay banks?) Before we knew it the place was packed and the wind had picked up. Lunch Time
Wind was still bad in town decided to run back to the upper and hit it from the other side. Not much action at the clay banks just an ol guy with some advice. Also the guy from Bent Rod Jigs was up there with some clients. As I hear his clients were having a great day hiding in the upper aswell. He had some advice to great people, but no action.
Not expecting much but taking the words we decided to make a last ditch effort and bare the wind in the lower.
After a saftey meeting
we walked by the rail bridge and threw and little rubber roe sack my buddy tied. Working our way to give up one cast after another walking our way downstream.
Decided to gamble and toss er near some debris figured if I snaged Id lick my wounds and head home. Almost instantly once my float hit the water I had a take down. Bein a rook I had my heart racing and a moment of pure............I dont know!
The fight went on all I could think about was Chris's video of the loss fish on the rocks. I had no chocice it had to be done I started walking back my buddy spotted it, it was a hatch. She hit the rocks and freaked right out, shiat now she was pissed. After another 10 minutes I had another oppertunity. Walkin back slowly playn it like a true newb. I got it up it was gonna be mine and then snap..... there goes my 8lb leader.
Shock and then out of nowhere my buddy dives toward the fish. After a strugle and some wet waders she gave in. I had my first ever Steelhead, pop.
She wasnt big 9lbs but the most beatiful fish I have ever caught.
I caught a fish only to find Im hooked myself.
