Well i decided to try out my new Spey rod set up
Now I have never casted one of these before so it was going to be more of a casting practice day than a fishing day
I got to mid river at first light, and happy to see no one was at the run to watch my attempt at casting this set up
I started off not too bad as it was not a wide section of water so i was not casting too far
I worked my way down the run and was met by another fisherman just walking into the run
we chatted for a while and wished each other good luck
I moved on down the river a bit and found another good run that too was empty
I worked my way through this run with some good casts and a few not so good
I decided to continue down into the next run and noticed a guy at the tail end
I worked my way down by now feeling better about my casting only a few bad casts
as i got down towards the guy he decided to move on leaving me with the whole run to my self
I moved back up to the top of the run and worked my way down
At about 3/4 of the way down I have a nice drift and just as i am about to strip some line in for another cast, thump, head shake head shake--fish on
Then all I see is the fishes tail splashing at the surface, then it takes off up river
I take my time and get it under control, now I have time to think, yikes where is my camera?
well its in my bag that is over my shoulder
I take a few steps back to the shore and manage to drop my bag, get out the camera with one hand
I get the fish close to shore and get two pictures
I then unhook the fish and with one big flick of its tail it is off into the middle of the river
I fish some other spots with lots of casting practice
It snowed lightly on and off
water clarity was poor
